Two more Illinoisans have died after contracting the West Nile virus. The deaths bring the Illinois total to 13.
The latest deaths are an 81-year-old woman from southern Cook County, who died September First, and a 76-year-old man from Madison County, who died Sept. 5. Both died from West Nile encephalitis.
The Department of Public Health says the deaths are among 22 new human cases of the mosquito-carried virus reported Wednesday. Those cases bring the total number of cases in Illinois to 314.
Human cases now have been reported in 25 of the state's 102 counties, with the addition of Vermilion County in eastern Illinois Wednesday.
West Nile virus illness in Illinois has been reported in people ranging in age from three months to 92.
