City Budget Debate Continues
The budget debate continues in Rockford as aldermen attempt to make their first round of major cuts.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The council could soon vote on whether to enforce a 5% wage reduction for all city departments. The move would save Rockford more than $2 million. Every union must agree to fork over the cash. Rockford aldermen are also taking the financial hit and giving up about $600 annually.
Some council members are also in a heated debate with the mayor regarding the city's human resources position. Some aldermen are fighting against the city leader's request to give newly appointed interim director, Julia Valdez, a raise. The council wants to give Valdez the standard 5% increase.

Check the CAFR for 2009.City of Rockford has liquid cash accounts of $600 million dollars in surpluses and cry poor. They have a neat trick of having two sets of books. The annual operating budget and the Consolidated annual financial statement oo CAFR.

Really? Seriously? A RAISE?!?!?! OUTSOURCE Valdez! Were talking about people losing jobs and an unemployment rate of 15.7! The nerve of those pretending to help Rockford!
