WISCONSIN (WIFR) -- A couple local Wisconsin schools are receiving honors for their success in educating students from low-income families.
Three elementary schools in Beloit and two from Janesville are receiving the awards for improvements in student achievement. The schools had to have an above average score on the states reading and math exams. They also had to meet adequate yearly progress for the past two years.
The information was based on comparing the school districts to other schools with similar sizes, grad configuration and poverty levels.
The Wisconsin schools receiving the awards have some of the highest poverty rates in the state based on free and reduced-price lunch data.
On October 18 schools meeting the requirements will receive a $2,000 reward. This year 154 Wisconsin School of Recognition Award recipients include 96 elementary schools, 34 middle or junior high schools and 24 high schools.
