Tuskegee Airmen Arrive in Rockford

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt established a flight school at Tuskegee University. Allowing African American men to fly bombers in World War II and now the Stateline is celebrating their heroism.

The Veterans Memorial Hall will have a meet and greet with the Tuskegee Airmen Saturday (Feb. 25) from one to 3:00 p.m.

    The Red Tails did NOT fly bombers they flew only escort missions to protect the bombers.

    I thought they escorted the bombers in the new P-51 Mustangs rather than actually fly the bombers. Maybe I am wrong?

    Kuddos to them and thanks for your sacrifice and over coming all the obstacles. These men deserve a lot of praise and young men should follow what they have paved.
