Snow Moved for Annual Snow Sculpting Competition Today

UPDATE: All this snow is great for the 26th Annual Snow Sculpting Competition.

Today crews hauled snow from the airport to Sinnissippi Park. They were able to clear the five inches that fell last week and a couple inches from this morning. We're told that because the snow is so fresh.

It should make great sculpting material by the time the competition rolls around next week.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Thanks to yesterday’s winter storm the 26 Annual Illinois Snow Sculpting competition is a go.

Earlier this week the Rockford Park District postponed the event because of the lack of the white stuff, but now it will get underway starting on Jan. 25 and run through Jan. 28.

Event organizers say they will go pick up the snow at the airport on Tuesday and they are just relieved to be able to put on the event.

John Beck, the Rockford Arts, Event, and Recreation Manager said, “We will have plenty of sculptures for people to come out and enjoy. the teams are just excited that we are going to actually going to have it the event because for a while it look like we weren’t going to.

Eight teams from Illinois will compete in the competition, including more than a dozen area high school students.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The 26th Annual Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition is officially being postponed to January 25-28.

In order to hold the event on its original dates of January 18-21, snow would be needed by the middle of this week. While there is a potential for snow accumulation this Thursday, the Rockford Park District will be unable to gather enough of it in time for the contest.

The competition was originally planned for Jan. 18. You can enter the contest at
