DIXON (WIFR) -- Spooky specials in store for October Second Saturdays Art Happenings featuring nine venues in downtown Dixon on Saturday, October 8, 6 – 8 p.m. Locations between 1st and 2rd Streets between Peoria and Galena Avenues.
To start off, a special Crystal Cork Art Quarterly at The Crystal Cork Wine Shoppe transforms into a Halloween spectacle. “Halloween Flight” features the multi-media works of Western Illinois University art professor, Bruce Walters.
As part of ‘Halloween Flight’ a special outdoor projection of Walter’s video, “Vultus” occurs on several buildings within downtown Dixon. “Vultus” (meaning ‘face’ and ‘faces’ in Latin) is a video animation of 100 cultural and Halloween masks that was projected on five art museums and art centers last Halloween -including 50’ high projections on the Figge Art Museum and the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria. The projection was featured online in literally hundreds of websites –and featured in the Des Moines Register, Quad City Times cover story, Peoria Journal Star and included in USAToday.
Books on First offers up a jazz lover’s delight featuring "Chameleon", a newly formed Jazz/Fusion Funk trio, featuring Jay Pauley on keyboards, Kevin Oppendike on drums and Todd Lorenc on bass.
At Lee County Genealogy, Jeff Lovett, a former Civil War Re-en actor with the 2nd Illinois Light Artillery Battery "G", will speak about Illinois, and Dixon in the Civil War.
