ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The 15th annual Scarecrow Festival Presented by Hicks Insurance is being planned for Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in downtown Dixon. A day of activities is being planned with fun for the whole family.
Starting in the morning, many of the traditional activities will begin, such as the pumpkin painting and the flower pot painting. Some of the other Scarecrow Festival highlights are the Pie-in-the-Face Booth, the Chalk the Walk, various kids games including a Race Car Bounce House.
"Scarecrow Festival is one of the major downtown highlights during the year," Dixon Main Street Executive Director Josh Albrecht said. "It is a great family-friendly event that offers up plenty of activities throughout the day."
This year, the Doggy Zoo will move to the Lee County Courthouse Lawn and begin at 10 a.m. With more than 50 different breeds, the Doggy Zoo is a great way to learn about various dogs straight from their owners.
"This is a great day for kids and parents to play and have fun in the downtown. There are so many crafts and games and activities to keep the kids busy," Albrecht said. "As long as the kids don't eat too much sugar during the festival, they will sleep well that night from all the fun."
The annual Scarecrow Decorating contest will continue this year. Look for the scarecrows throughout the downtown. The contest is just $20, to register call the DMS office at 288-2308.
Parts of First Street will be closed during the day for the festival. For more information on Dixon Main Street events, go to www.dixonil.com/mainstreet or the Facebook event page at https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=180163858721381
