Lindsay directed the film Undefeated. he documentary follows a Memphis, Tennessee high school football team in their quest to pick up the school's first playoff win in it's 110-year history.

He said, "It was completely surreal. I did not believe it at first and then it just kind of kicked in and I suddenly had this overwhelming amount of energy going through my body."

The City of Rockford plans to honor Lindsay at tonight's city council meeting. The film has another local tie: it features music from Miles Nielsen. He’s the son of Rick Nielsen from the band Cheap Trick.

A Rockford native wins big at tonight's academy awards.

Rockfordian and Boylan High School grad Dan Lindsay collected his first career Oscar nomination, and win, Sunday night with his documentary *Undefeated. The film follows the Manassas High School football team of Memphis, Tennessee, in their quest to put together a winning season and get their first playoff win in the school's 110 year history. Lindsay says he still can't believe the film was nominated and is thankful for the opportunity to follow the team throughout their season.

“It's just completely surreal you know,” Lindsay told 23 News. “But as I’ve always tried to say, really the nomination is a result of the people that we followed in the film and the trust that they gave us to tell their story. So really it's a testament to the people that we filmed."

There's another local tie to Lindsay’s film, it features music from Miles Nielsen. He's the son of Rick Nielsen from the band Cheap Trick.

That's really neat to see; however, the downside to this is in order to be successful, you've got to move out of this town (and I mean far away and fast). There's really nothing going in Rockford, and it tanks-out every time the country goes into recession & never fully recovers. Kids, get your college degree and move out of Dodge if you ask me. There's nothing here for you except unemployment and poverty.
