ROCKFORD (RAAC) -- The Rockford Area Arts Council received a severe blow this week.
The City of Rockford cut the Arts Council’s funding from $50,000 to $25,000. This is the second major reduction in three years and represents a 75% reduction.
The city staff has been asked by the City Council to explore other possible funding sources for the additional revenue.
The Rockford Area Arts Council has launched the “ArtSavers” Challenge. For every dollar donated to the Arts Council by fiscal year end, August 31, the Rockford Area Board of Directors will raise a dollar to match.
Donations are accepted on-line at www.artsforeveryone.com or at the Arts Council office, 713 East State during regular business hours, 8 AM-5PM Monday through Thursday and 8-Noon on Friday. Area businesses willing to collect donations will be given “ArtSaver” Collection boxes. Please contact the Rockford Area Arts Council at 815-963-6765.
The Rockford Area Arts Council sponsors Fall and Spring ArtScene, awards arts grants to arts organizations, schools and individual artists, coordinates after-school arts classes, advocates for the arts in schools and community, and offers summer arts programs for children and youth: ArtsPlace at Rockford College and RAAC ArtsCamp at Ellis Arts Academy. The Rockford Area Arts Council’s mission is to promote, support and develop the arts for everyone.
