ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center is pleased to present the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra, directed by Stephen Squires, in concert with violin virtuoso Darwyn Apple in “Mozart Meets Ravel” on Friday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Court Street United Methodist Church. Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for students. Groups of 10 or more adults receive $5 off per ticket.

Violinist Darwyn Apple debuted with the Detroit Symphony at age 17. He has extensive solo and ensemble experiences in the United States, the Virgin Islands, Europe, and South America as well as solo appearances with many American orchestras, including those of New Orleans and Toledo, and many return engagements with the Detroit Symphony. He performed as part of the presidential inaugural festivities in Washington, D.C., in January 1993. Mr. Apple was first violinist with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra for many years and was previously a member of The New Orleans Symphony Orchestra and Rochester Philharmonic, and served as concertmaster of the Toledo Symphony. Darwyn Apple is represented by Grantshire Artist Promotion and Management Services, L.L.C.

Founded over 20 years ago by Eleanor Stanlis, the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of Stephen Squires, is the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center’s highly respected, professional chamber orchestra. The MCO recently won the Illinois Council of Orchestras 2011 "Chamber Orchestra of the Year" Award, which will be presented at the concert.

Since 1884, the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center has been a source of musical leadership and excellence for the residents of northern Illinois. The Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, a non-profit organization located at 415 North Church Street in Rockford, serves the community with a wide range of music programming, youth programs and educational outreach opportunities.
