Mel Gibson Charged With Misdemeanor Battery In LA

LOS ANGELES (WIFR) -- Los Angeles prosecutors have charged Mel Gibson with misdemeanor battery stemming from a January 2010 fight involving his then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva (gree-GOR'-yeh-vuh.)

The Academy Award-winner was charged Friday in the incident involving the Russian musician.

The actor-director's arraignment is scheduled later Friday.

A person familiar with the case says Gibson will accept a plea deal. The person was not authorized to discuss details of the agreement and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Gibson is not expected to serve any jail time.

His attorney Blair Berk said in a previous statement that Gibson pursued a plea agreement with his children in mind. He has an infant daughter with Grigorieva.
