Illinoisans Speaketh Like Shakespeare On Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, IL. (WIFR) -- Hear ye, hear ye! Saturday has been declared "Talk Like Shakespeare Day" in Illinois.

Gov. Pat Quinn issued a proclamation urging people to speak like William Shakespeare on what would have been his 447th birthday. The day honors the bard's contribution to the English language.

The Chicago Shakespeare Theater launched the event three years.

Theater members say Shakespeare contributed 1,700 words to the English vocabulary. They say it is important to celebrate his words during an era of text messaging and YouTube videos.

The theater company suggests using "thee" and thou" instead of "you."

And then there are the colorful insults, like "jackanape" and "doghearted dewberry."
