CALEDONIA (WIFR) -- A local sixth graders talent has sparked the Stateline’s attention by her travels to compete in Dublin, Ireland
Caledonia resident Mackenzie Powers leaves tomorrow afternoon to compete in a solo Irish dance competition. She will perform soft and hard shoe dances against girls her age at the seven-day 2012 All-Ireland-Championships.
She will be competing for a spot at the world championships held next year in Boston. Her dress was custom made by her grandmother with more than 25-hundred Swarovski crystals and it's valued at 15 hundred dollars.
MacKenzie Powers said, "It's a really fun experience to go to and it's an honor if anyone can go to it if you live not in Ireland because it's a long trip--10 hour plane ride. They've told me to go out there, give it my all, and if I don't recall it's okay because it's a good experience to have."
After the seven day competition, Mackenzie plans to visit family in Ireland and tour the northern part of the country.
