SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Microsoft says it will cut the price of an HD DVD player add-on for its Xbox 360 video game console and will also give away movies with the player to support the format.
The announcement comes a day after retailer Target confirmed that it will promote the rival Blu-ray format for high-definition DVDs this holiday season, following a similar move by rental giant Blockbuster.
Microsoft is trimming the price of the player to 179 dollars from 199 dollars, and says it will add five free movies for buyers between August first and and September 30th.
