Cartoonist Doug Marlette Killed in Car Crash

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Cartoonist Doug Marlette has died in a Mississippi car crash.

Marlette -- who won a Pulitzer Prize in 1988 for editorial cartooning -- was a passenger in a car that struck a tree this morning after skidding on a rain-slicked road.

Marlette was 57 years old. His editorial cartoons and his comic strip, "Kudzu," are syndicated worldwide.

He started drawing political cartoons for the Charlotte Observer in 1972.
