'Evan Almighty' shows might with $32.1 million

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Steve Carell couldn't match the might of Jim Carrey in his followup to Carry's comedy smash "Bruce Almighty."

Carell's "Evan Almighty," debuted number one at the weekend box office with an estimated 32 (m) million dollars. But that's less than half the 68 (m) million opening of its predecessor.

The new horror flick "1408," starring John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson squeaked in at second place with 20 (m) million dollars, followed closely behind by "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer."

"Ocean's Thirteen," was fourth and "Knocked Up," fifth.

Angelina Jolie's "A Mighty Heart," had a so-so debut, coming in at Number Ten with four (m) million.

Sound: Upcoming
