Britney Spears says hitting "rock bottom" sent her to rehab

(AP) -- Britney Spears says hitting "rock bottom" sent her to what she calls "a very humbling place called rehab," but she denies "alcohol or depression" were the cause.

In a message to her fans on her Web site, Spears says she was "so overwhelmed" and "lost" after her divorce. She says she was "like a bad kid running around with A-D-D."

Spears complains that too many people tried to run her life after her divorce. She says when she began using her "brain for a change" and speaking up, people called her "a bit**."

She says it's "so sad" she's had to "cut so many people" from her life because "if anyone is a family person," it's her.

Spears tells fans she wants "the same things in life that you want, and that is to be happy." She ends the message by saying only "God can "figure out life completely" and she "can't wait to meet him or her."
