LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The new "American Idol" is Jordin Sparks.
Sparks beat out Blake Lewis to take the title.
Host Ryan Seacrest says a record 74 (m) million votes were cast by fans of the Fox show. He did not give a vote breakdown.
Sparks was overcome after the results were read. She told the audience, "I can't thank you for keeping me around and thank you so much for everything."
She nearly broke into tears while singing "This Is My Now," the song which will be her first single.
