J.K. Rowling Outs Hogwarts Character

NEW YORK (AP) -- Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay.

He was outed by author J.K. Rowling before a full house at New York's Carnegie Hall where she read briefly from "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."

She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love." To gasps and applause she explained "Dumbledor is gay" and had been smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, whom he defeated long ago in a battle between good and bad wizards. She said the love was the master wizard's "great tragedy."

Rowlings says not everyone likes her work, adding that her news about Dumbledore will give them one more reason.
