ROSCOE (WIFR) – Voters said no to an extended bus service for Roscoe Township.

The referendum to expand door to door bus service to the rural areas failed last night. The SMTD operates under the Rockford mass transit district and provides rides in Roscoe, South Beloit, Rockton and the Rockton Township.

Magdelene Kohler says she has a medical condition that will prevent her from being able to drive soon. She says bus service is necessary for others who are disabled.

“So one eye is already disabled, the other eye will be disabled so I will not be able to drive anymore. Therefore, a bus service in our residential area would be a liberating situation.”

Roscoe Township Supervisor Jim Benkovich says the board won’t pursue the extended service.
