ROCKTON (WIFR) -- Hononegah’s Life Skills’ Vocational Internship Program places students at various work places around the Rockton/Roscoe area.
Hononegah teachers Justin Wieman and Jeanine DeHaven-Binger place the 12 students that are in program and also give instructional support for their placements. The internship program focuses on both filling the work needed by the employer and also having students work on job-related and transition skills necessary for post high school employment. “Students have learned valuable workplace skills by volunteering monthly at the Northern Illinois Food Bank,” remarked Justin Wieman.
Presently, the vocational internship program has the following community partners that are participating in the program: Fibs, Carpet Mill Outlet USA, Pizza Ranch, Backyard Grill and Bar, Poison Ivy, Naturally Organic, Direct Value Furniture, Main Street Meat Company, Kids Spot, Mandolin Café, American Bell, and Stepping Stones Day Care. These placements are excellent opportunities for Hononegah students to learn the necessary skills needed in the workplace environment.
Hononegah would like to recognize the efforts of our students, Mr. Weiman and Ms. DeHaven-Binger, and the various community partners involved in the Life Skills Vocational Internship Program.
