ROCKTON (WIFR) -- Below is a press release from Hononegah High School regarding high school rankings:
This week, Hononegah High School is participating in American Education Week and staff, students, parents, and the community have much to celebrate.
According to three National publications: Washington Post, Chicago Sun Times, and Newsweek, Hononegah ranks among the top performing and most challenging high schools in the state of Illinois and in the Nation. While each publication uses various criteria to complete the rankings, they all look at achievement of the students from each high school being ranked. Washington Post ranked Hononegah at number 1227 of the “Best High Schools” in the Nation because of the number of Advanced Placement tests taken by the seniors from the Class of 2013. Newsweek also used the number of Advanced Placement tests taken by students as well as ACT scores and the percentage of students graduating in four years as indicators to rank Hononegah as number 879 of the “Best High Schools” in the Nation.
Lastly, Hononegah High School made the “Top 50 High Schools in Illinois” list featured by Chicago Sun Times. The Chicago Sun Times averages test scores on the Prairie State Achievement Exam and compares the school’s average with the State’s average. From that comparison, Hononegah ranked number 49.
While these rankings are impressive, it comes with a great deal of hard work and dedication from our students and staff. The staff at Hononegah High School strives to give every student the most rigorous experiential learning opportunity possible and our students work really hard to achieve at those high levels. Hononegah continues to expand the Advanced Placement offerings and works to prepare every student for college and a career. In 2013, a record number of Advanced Placement tests were taken and passed by students, which was a contributing factor in the rankings by these publications.
In celebration of American Education Week, Hononegah High School proudly honors our students, staff, parents, and community and the accomplishments that led to these prestigious rankings.
