ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Property taxes for families living in the Rockford School District aren't going up.
The Rockford School Board agreed Tuesday night to keep the tax levy rate the same for the upcoming cycle. These will be the same rates from Fall 2012. Conservative spending over the last year has allowed the district to build up its savings, which should cover the difference for now. Despite the board's action to hold levels steady, the rate is still expected to increase because of falling property values.
It was a busy night for the Rockford School Board. Members approved three new contracts with the district's labor unions. Paraprofessionals and Nutrition Service Workers will receive a 2% signing bonus and a pay increase. The Educational Office will receive a seventy-five cent hourly raise and a bonus for employees at the top of the pay scale.
