BELOIT (WIFR) -- The Rock County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with the Beloit Police Department are releasing that a sex offender, Shawn T. Viralee has served the sentence imposed on him by the courts and will be relocating to the Beloit area.
Virlee's prior sexual assault convictions to include: 03/05/90: 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of a Child. This offense involved Virlee sexually assaulting a 14-year-old female acquaintance who was intoxicated. 10/05/90: 1st Degree Sexual Assault of a Child, 2 counts. The offenses involved Virlee sexually assaulting a 5-year-old and 9-year-old female known to him on multiple occasions. 06/24/96: 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of a Child, Habitual Criminality. This offense involved Virlee sexually assaulting a 14-year-old female acquaintance.
On 10/10/01 Virlee was civilly committed under the Chapter 980, Sexual Violent Person Act. On 12/10/12, Door County Circuit Court Judge Peter Diltz granted Virlee’s discharge from the civil commitment. Virlee reports upon discharge on 12/14/12. He will be temporarily residing at 1850 S. Madison Rd., Beloit WI and plans to relocate in approximately two weeks to the residence at 12445 W. State Road 81, Beloit, WI.
Mr. Virlee will not be on any supervised release or community supervision upon his discharge from the 980 civil commitment. He is required to have lifetime Global Positioning System (GPS) monitoring and is a lifetime registrant with the Sex Offender Registry Program. Virlee must maintain compliance with both the GPS monitoring and sex offender registration.
This bulletin is not intended to create fear or panic in the community, but to increase awareness, and to emphasize the need to practice protective behaviors, for yourself and with your children. The Rock County Sheriff’s Office and the Beloit Police Department are planning on hosting a community notification meeting on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Beloit City Hall Forum, 100 State St., Beloit, WI.
The meeting is intended to provide the public with information and education about sex offender registration, community notification, information about the subject named in this bulletin, the Chapter 980 civil commitment process and to enhance public awareness and education on ways communities can protect themselves from acts of sexual violence. Please note: some of the material covered at the meeting may not be suitable for young children.
