ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Police have arrested a woman they suspect is responsible for a rash of purse thefts from shopping carts over the past two weeks.
All the 'purse snatching' incidents were at local grocery stores and the victims ranged in age from 56 to 80.
At the time of the thefts, the victims left their purses in shopping carts while shopping.
Rockford Police Detectives arrested Aelsia E. Waybright,48, of Rockford after a follow up investigation on information received from Crime Stoppers.
On September 21st, 2011 shortly after 10:00 AM, Rockford Police Patrol Officers took Waybright into custody on unrelated charges.
Waybright was subsequently lodged in the Winnebago County Jail where she is being held in lieu of bond. A photograph of Waybright is not being released at this time due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Waybright is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
