New developments tonight on the brutal murder of two Rockford men. Police have intensified their search for clues and have come up with some new information.
According to the Winnebago County Coroner's Office multiple stab wounds to the chest caused the death of two area men.
Rockford police were called to a fight last night around 6:30pm on Apple Orchard Lane. 46 year-old Michael Dimario and 54 year-old George Ricketts were found murdered outside the housing complex at 4533. Investigators processed the scene through the night and re-doubled their efforts today. They searched the area again for evidence, dug through garbage cans and interviewed neighbors.
Many residents never expected something like this to happen in their neighborhood, and some are on the verge of moving out including Merritt Westlake. "I need a safe community to raise my wife and family, and if I can't do that, then where am I at? I’m going to turn my keys over to the bank and leave"
Deputy Chief Greg Lindmark of the Rockford Police says he understands the reaction. "Anytime you have a crime of this nature in any particular neighborhood, it's very alarming and disturbing, not only to us, but to the neighbors."
Investigators have been able to create a timeline tracing the whereabouts of the two victims up to their time of death. They did not live at the apartment complex where their bodies were found. They have also determined that the murders happened during a fight involving multiple people and that the two victims knew each other.
At this time there are not suspects in custody.
Police say call to them or crime-stoppers if you knew either of the victims or have any information that may help the investigation.
