ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- It might not feel quite like Spring, but the weather is definitely warming up. A new local festival kicked off in Rockford on Saturday, in honor of the temperature warming up.

The Prairie Street Brew House opened its doors to the 1st Annual Melt Fest. It's about celebrating the melting snow, and bringing community members together. Dozens of vendors set up everything from face paint for the kids, to home made brick oven pizzas. More than a thousand people showed up. Volunteers believe Melt Fest is a perfect way to showcase what our city has to offer.

"That's really what we wanted was to get people from different walks of life together, because we all get to live in this awesome city," says Volunteer, Brian Huels.

Melt Fest leaders hope to bring the event back next year. Most of the proceeds go back to local community organizations.
