Rockford Robotics Receives Challenge for FIRST Championship

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- District 205 students are enjoying their last few days of winter break, but members of the R2OC robotics team are already working hard on their next creation.

The Rockford Robotics team gathered this morning to find out their challenge for the FIRST Championship.

High school teams from across the world will have to design a robot that can pick up an exercise ball and throw it into a goal.

The Rockford Robotics team has taken its robot to the world championship three times since 2009.

"It's one of the best ways you can grow yourself because it's not just about the robots," said Auburn senior Eli Ball. "It's about media, all of these life skills you can use and you'll larn a lot. Just simply that you'll learn a lot and you'll grow a lot."

The championship is April 23-26 in St. Louis.

The team will also show off it's robot in the second annual Rock River Off-Season Competition July 26, which includes teams from Belvidere, Rockton, Winnebago and Freeport.
