ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- After a relatively quite few months for Rockford Police crime is back on the rise.
It was up nearly 30% from February to March. Car break-ins topped the list with 67, a 168% percent jump from February. There were also big increases in the number of calls for shootings and burglaries. Although overall crime is still down compared to the same time last year Deputy Chief Lori Sweeney says they're working hard to prevent the numbers from going any higher.
"Its going to be identifying those patterns or where we see an issue almost being able to see it the very next day and say OK we better go and put out some public service announcement or put information out there so the public knows something is happening, Sweeney said.
They will be patrolling more in the summer out walking and on bikes.
