UPDATE: Freeport Police Officer Passes Away Due to Natural Causes

FREEPORT (WIFR) -- We now know how a 24-year veteran with the Freeport Police Department died.

Interim Police Chief Todd Barkalow says an autopsy performed on Tuesday shows Corporal Mark Otto, 48, died of natural causes. Officers say Otto was found dead inside his home Monday morning.

A visitation for Otto will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, West Galena/Walnut Avenue, Freeport, IL 61032.

Services will be held on March 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Park Hills Evangelical Free Church, 2525 W Stephenson Street, Freeport, IL 61032. Burial will follow services.

Officers say 48-year-old Mark Otto passed away at his home earlier this morning. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
