Daughter Honored For Saving Mother During Domestic Dispute

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A 12-year-old is honored by the Rockford Housing Authority for saving her mother's life during a domestic violence incident.

Tajenay Perkins was awarded a certificate of bravery from RHA after she called police when she witnessed her mother being abused and threatened with a gun to the head by her mother's estranged ex-boyfriend.

That man is 38 year old James Norman and he is now in the Winnebago County jail facing felony gun and drug charges.

Perkins says she just happy her mother Sesheta Whittier is alive and well.

"I don't know what it's like to live without your mom," said Perkins, "and I do not want to experience that."

Norman will be in court next on May 8th.
