The YMCA of Rock River Valley is a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Y serves 35,000 people through seven area branches and is one of the largest nonprofit employers in the greater Rockford area, with over 600 full and part-time staff.
The Community Foundation of Northern Illinois is the area’s largest provider of grants and scholarships. Its mission is to attract, grow, and preserve an endowment for the needs of the people of Northern Illinois.
The YMCA of Rock River Valley has been awarded a $15,000 grant by the Glenn E. Thiel Memorial Fund of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois.
The grant will be used in the Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Head Start Collaborative Mentorship Program, run by the Community Outreach YMCA. The mission of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
“The grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois will give us additional resources to further our mission and continue to give area youth the support they need,” said Executive Director, Tabatha Endres-Cruz, Community Outreach YMCA.
