No matter how high gas prices get, for most of us, not buying it is not an option. But many drivers are finding help in unusual places.

Online shopping for gas is exactly what drivers are doing at MyGallons.com. Launched this week, it aims to protect individual drivers from high gas prices the same way large fleets of corporately owned vehicles protect themselves. Drivers can purchase as much gas as they like at the average price available in their home area. Then, using their account like a debit card, they can fill up their gas tanks with those gallons for as far into the future as they like...no matter how much time passes or how much the price of gas rises.

All it takes is a one time annual fee. After that, you'll be hard-pressed to find a gas station that won't accept your MyGallons card. There is no limit to the amount of gas you can pre-purchase.

The price you pay is based on your billing zip code, so if you travel to an area that sells cheaper gas than what's on your card, you earn credits on your account.
