LOS ANGELES (AP) -- "Disappointing" and "puzzling." That's how the attorney for a Missouri woman describes a decision by federal prosecutors in Los Angeles to indict his client on charges connected with a teen's suicide.

Lori Drew is charged with conspiracy and fraudulently gaining access to someone else's computer. She's alleged to have helped create a MySpace account to contact 13-year-old Megan Meier. The girl thought she was chatting with a 16-year-old boy and hanged herself after receiving a message supposedly from the boy saying the world would be better off without her.

But Drew's attorney Dean Steward tells NBC's "Today" show that St. Louis prosecutors carefully examined the case and decided no crimes had been committed.

Drew could face as much as 20 years in prison, but Megan Meier's mother says the 49-year-old Drew should get life.

While the Drew and Meier families live in suburban St. Louis, the indictment notes that the MySpace computer servers are located in Los Angeles.
