LAKE ARROWHEAD, Calif. (AP) -- For the third time in a week, a coyote has attacked a toddler in Southern California.
Authorities in San Bernadino county say the latest incident happened Tuesday in the mountain community of Lake Arrowhead. Melissa Rowley had stepped inside her house while her children were playing in the front yard. When she returned, a coyote was dragging Rowley's 2-year-old daughter to the street by the head. The animal let go when Rowley ran to rescue the girl.
The toddler was treated for several puncture wounds to the head and neck, but authorities say she is back home with her parents and is expected to fully recover.
Two other attacks occurred at a park in Chino Hills, about 30 miles east of Los Angeles.
On Friday, a nanny pulled another 2-year-old girl from the jaws of a coyote. And on Sunday, a father chased one off that had come after his toddler.
Trappers have since killed three animals, one of which is believed to be the coyote who bit the child.
Biologists can't explain the rash of incidents.
