PENTAGON (AP) -- Defense Secretary Robert Gates is ordering the military to take a look at its nuclear inventory, after ballistic missile fuses were mistakenly delivered to Taiwan.
The Pentagon says Gates ordered the Air Force, Navy and Defense Logistics Agency to conduct a full inventory of all nuclear weapons and related materials. He's also ordered that they do an assessment of inventory control procedures.
Officials say Gates told the agencies he wants a report in no more than 60 days.
Earlier this week, Gates asked Navy Admiral Kirkland Donald to take charge of a full investigation of the delivery mishap.
Four cone-shaped fuses for an intercontinental ballistic missile were shipped to Taiwan instead of the helicopter batteries they had ordered.
The fuses were delivered in fall 2006 but the military did not fully realize the scale of the blunder until last week.
