" Not everybody thinks like you Jan"
It''s not out of the ordinary to see Rockton bar owner Jan Heinz and her best friend Lona disagree.. especially on whether protests at the chemtool plant can destroy a good thing...
"It seems like a big uproar over a labor dispute" ..says village president Dale Adams
and that's exactly what it is.. Union workers have been protesting since Friday.,, after chemtool decided to hire a contractor outside of Winnebago county..village president Dale Adams says the company chose a construction firm that was 70 thousand dollars less than the competition. In August..Rockton village board members approved a tax break for the plant.. another reason residents like Lona are unhappy with the choice of contruction staff ,,
" i understand that they have to have some people from out of this area to go there but the whole idea of tiff coming here and getting all of these years free taxes. i thought that was to build this community" says Lona Fick
With so many communities suffering from high unemployment...businesses like Chemtool have become the answer their prayers. ..
" I know hes been offered sites in other areas and states" Says President Adams
With the possibility of Chemtool bringing 500 new jobs to the area.. .Mayor Adams feels picket signs aren't giving company officials the warm welcome they deserve. ...
