Local Red Cross volunteers are en route to Louisiana right now to help with disaster relief just in case Gustav hits hard. The team of two left for Baton Rouge around noon today but much of the morning was spent packing up and getting the relief truck ready.
Their main job will be to canvass any hard hit areas, to get food to victims in need. The hope is that Gustav doesn't even hit but with Katrina on many peoples minds, the best bet, they say is to show we learned our lesson and be prepared this time.
Meanwhile, another group of eight volunteers from Freeport, Stockton, and Beloit are also on their way south to assist in storm preparation efforts.
