CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- Singer and songwriter Erik Darling who was known for his 1963 hit "Walk Right In" has died at age 74 of lymphoma.

He died Sunday in Chapel Hill.

Darling replaced Pete Seeger in the pioneering folk music group The Weavers.

He was also known for his arrangement of the iconic ballad "Tom Dooley."

Fred Hellerman, an original member of the group, said Thursday he learned of his friend's death by e-mail earlier this week and recalled him as "immensely talented."

Darling recently published a memoir, "I'd Give My Life -- A Journey by Folk Music."

In addition to the Weavers, Darling was a member of the Rooftop Singers and the Tarriers.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas in Raleigh.
