A sixty year old murder case is making headlines once again. Here's a look back at the mysterious murder of Mary Jane Reed and the latest on a legal battle to make Ogle County investigators release their evidence.

Warren Reed was six years old when his sister 17-year old Mary Jane Reed was murdered along with her boyfriend just outside Oregon. Sixty years later, Warren is still working to keep a promise to his mother.
"She kinda asked me if I would continue and try to find out who murdered my sister, her daughter and I told her yes I would and this was on her death bed when I told her that," says Reed.
Reed's quest has repeatedly led him to the Ogle County courthouse. Right now he's battling to make county leaders turn over all their evidence...
"In the reports we have, it referenced reports we didn't have," says Reed's attorney Jeffrey Hammerlund.
...And officially recognize Reed as a victim of violent crime, under state statute that would require investigators to keep him in the loop on their findings. On Wednesday, the case was continued until August eighth.
Reed sees his latest struggles as part of a cover-up by Ogle County investigators. The sheriff's department never named a suspect, but the family has their theories. Mary Jane was allegedly involved with a high-ranking member of the sheriff's department at the time of the crime.
"They didn't want anyone to know who murdered my sister," says Warren Reed.
In 2005, the Reeds finally got permission to have Mary Jane's body exhumed. Forensic pathologists hired by the family claim the grave contained the remains of two different skeletons. "The skull and the C1 come from another individual," says investigator Mike Arians, holding up the skull and vertebrae.
The coroner ran his own autopsy but did not release his brief report until this year, after Reed's attorney complained. The original 1948 autopsy is missing.

The attorney representing the Ogle County Sheriff's Department, coroner and state's attorney declined to comment in court Wednesday. Reed's attorney also wants each of those parties to be required to have its own attorney and he wants the FBI to investigate whether the parties acted criminally in refusing to share evidence.

Back in 2005, the Ogle County Sheriff's Department closed the case. They said they had an idea of who the killer was, but could not be sure and since the suspect is already dead, they would not release the name. However Reed's attorneys said Wednesday the case was closed before several final reports came in.
This case may be featured on the CBS show 48 Hours.
