A 13-year-old Chicago boy is dead after drowning in the pool of the Great Oaks Apartment Complex in Cherry Valley. Dead is Leveal Pratt.

Pratt was a non-swimmer. In the past he only went in the shallow end of the pool. Pratt jumped in the deep end by mistake. A neighbor, Angel Owens, peformed CPR on the boy until Cherry Valley rescue workers arrived. Pratt died at Rockford Memorial Hospital at 5:08 this Thursday morning.

The apartment complex does not have a life-guard staff. There is a sign however, warning residents not to swim alone.
