Rockford YMCA President Announces Changes

Upwards of 300 people crowded into the veterans memorial hall to hear what Mike Brown's plans are for his second year. Some in attendance were very happy with his focus on targeting childhood obesity.

"It's amazing, I can't wait to see what he has to come in the future," said YMCA employee Carrie Kline. "And as long as the community jumps on board with it and can help support the Y, the Y can support the community, and that's what we're all about. Being partners."

Brown announced that the YMCA of Rock River Valley was financially stable, and that plans were in motion to construct several new facilities in the downtown location.

"I think there's got to be a commitment to bring the youth of Rockford, to make the youth of Rockford healthier, and to give them hope for the future," said long-time YMCA member Charles Worboys. "And I think the YMCA is the organization in Rockford that can provide that help."

A new and improved gymnasium, fitness facilty, and renovated locker rooms were mentioned as potential projects.
