ILLINOIS (WIFR) -- Illinois became the first state in the nation to sell lottery tickets online starting March 25, 2012. But only 157,000 people played online in the first three months - and the Illinois lottery was hoping for at least 600,000 players.
Sales in the first three months topped out at $2.2 million, but half of that came from the first two drawings for the $656 Mega Millions jackpot on March 30.
Users have complained the website is difficult to use, and others have privacy concerns. At www.myillinoislottery.com, you are required to share your birth date, phone number, and social security number to play.
The Illinois Lottery says its revamping the site, and also hopes to add Powerball to the list of games you can play online to entice online players.
