A group of local volunteers saw first hand what hundreds of students are going through in Newtown.
Comfort dogs from Belvidere's Immanuel Lutheran Church greeted students on their first day of class. They made such an impact, they were asked to extend their stay.
This is a story we are continuing to follow, a second group of Stateline volunteers just arrived in Connecticut. The men and women will use Golden Retrievers to welcome students back to class for the second week of school.
The dogs are trained to stay calm and are known to reduce stress.
