A music video made in Rockford and posted on YouTube has been viewed more than 4,500 times in the last week. It's a re-make of the famous NWA song "F*** tha Police," except local rappers re-wrote the lyrics about incidents that have happened in Rockford over the last few years, including police-involved shootings.

One lyric says ,"If you ask me, they're the biggest gang with a badge, crooked cops gonna take the evidence to crime labs." And another considers the now infamous shooting death of Marc Anthony Barmore.

"Marc Anthony I hold it down for you, too, for sure, we gon' get justice one day I promise you."

It caused a major stir Monday night at Rockford City Council when Alderman Carl Wasco said anyone who threatens police should be held accountable. Wasco says even though "the First Amendment is a beautiful thing," he wants city attorney Pat Hayes to review the video.

The rappers say they didn't mean to cause trouble, and weren't inciting violence.

"We don't want war going on in this town with like people versus the police, we don't want that at all, that was not our intentions at all, that wasn't our intention we were just saying how we felt," says Nieci Agee, the female lead in the video.

"The police are an authority. You're supposed to protect and serve us you know but a lot of things we've seen is not protecting and serving us."

The video's producer, local Hollywood Lenz says he didn't have anything to do with the video's content, but was merely hired to make it look professional.

"This video basically was not meant for city hall meetings. It was an underground song and it was an underground video, and it was coming from the hood perspective and individuals who grew up on Rockford's west side."

"We apologize if it's hurt anyone," Agee says. The male lead in the video, Lamont Powell, says he regrets making it.

Both artists say they had no idea it would ever get this much notoriety, but as aspiring musicians, they're excited about the attention.
