Rock County Issues Winter Weather Advisory

Posted: 11:08 AM Feb 7, 2013

ROCK COUNTY (WIFR) -- A Winter Weather Advisory was issued by the National Weather Service for Rock County until midnight on Thursday. Weather reports indicate there could be freezing rain during the morning hours with a possible ice accumulation of 0.10 inches. The freezing rain will be followed by snow amounting to a possible 2 to 5 inches through the course of the day. The snow is expected to cease late Thursday evening.

As the storm approaches, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone to be aware of the changing road conditions and use caution when traveling. The best way to prevent accidents and runoffs is to be a defensive driver. Give yourself extra time for travel, reduce your speeds, and allow space between yourself and the vehicle in front of you. As always, wear your seatbelt and prepare your vehicle for traveling during a snow storm.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Office will continue to monitor the weather and roadway conditions throughout the day. Please continue to follow local news reports as the winter storm approaches. For additional winter safety tips, please visit www.readywisconsin.wi.gov. Road conditions can be monitored at www.511wi.gov or by dialing 511 on your telephone.
