Snow Emergencies

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Stateliners are already starting to gear up for the first storm of the year. 290 days is how long it has been since the Rockford Area last saw accumulating snow. Tomorrow, all of that will end, and the city of Rockford will be ready for it. Two groups will be on standby as the storm approaches and eventually rotating 12-hour shifts. If the storm is worse than expected the city does have a private contractor on standby for additional support. Some crews are already out in preparation and priority is keeping the main roads clear.

"We will start with the pre-treatment of a salt mixture we have. We will go out and use the salt mixture before it starts snowing. We want to make sure the main streets are taken care of right away,” said Public Works Director, Tim Hanson.

The city of Rockford has implemented it's snow ordinance that goes into place at 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning and they will be ticketing if you are parked in a snow zone.
