Morrissey Campaign Files Electioneering Complaint

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford's Mayor is accusing the Police Union and one of his opponents of campaigning illegally. Now he wants the State Board of Elections to get involved.

This stems from a series of television and radio ads being sponsoed by teh Rockford Police Union. Mayor Larry Morrissey thinks someone else might be funding them. He filed a complaint, arguing the ads are running within the 60-day window of an election and thinks democratic challenger Jim Hughes is violating election laws by placing links to the ads on his campaign website and Facebook page. The State Board of Elections will meet with both sides during a closed door hearing. That date remains unknown.
