Average Gas Price $3.90 a Gallon

Posted: 3:07 PM Feb 18, 2013

STATELINE (WIFR) -- Gas prices are fast approaching $4.00 a gallon and it’s not even spring. Quite a few of you have been asking about the spike on our Facebook page.

In the past week, the average Stateline price rose 17 cents to $3.90 a gallon. We called up our gas expert Jim Ritterbusch who tells us we're experiencing a hike in prices that we don't usually see until the spring. That means prices could actually drop a little once we get to April or May, thanks to a wide variety of reasons. Ritterbusch says prices could drop even more this summer.

"Looking ahead to this Summer, I see prices being significantly lower than where they're at right now. The hike that we're seeing at the current time I don't think is sustainable, and we'll be looking at some lower prices as we proceed through the first half of this year,” said Ritterbusch.

Ritterbusch says a steady, but still fairly high unemployment rate and lower crude prices will contribute to that eventual decline.
