YMCA Offering Teen Parenting Workshop Series

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – According to the latest American Family Asset Study by the Search Institute, the US is failing at raising their children, achieving a 47/100.

For the first time, the YMCA of Rock River Valley is hosting a free, mini-workshop series on raising teens to help parents understand their teens and pre-teens. The workshop is held on Tuesdays and is four weeks long, beginning March 12th. All parents are welcome, no Y membership required.
With the fast paced, social media driven world, teenagers’ problems do not just revolve around finding a date to the dance. The new generation of teens are constantly connected, pushed to learn faster, given different opportunities than their parents and are expected to solve the problems of tomorrow. The workshop will introduce parents to the technology, culture and problems facing the Millennial generation. It will also focus on family relationship building and how to increase your family’s developmental assets.

The Raising Teens workshop is lead by the CEO & President of YMCA of Rock River Valley, Mike Brown. His experience with teens and his PhD studies on the Millennial generation will help parents gain insight on the challenges that teens and parents are faced with and how to handle them. Topics covered include smart phones, Facebook, teen anger and a Q&A session. See attached flyer for further details.
The Raising Teens workshop is the first of many the YMCA plans to hold to help increase a family’s developmental assets. Other topics will focus around infants/toddlers, marriage, and older adults.
